The idea for Dawson Construction was born during a family trip home for Christmas in 1961. While reading the local newspaper, Ralph Dawson came across a listing for a construction company that was for sale. Intrigued, he decided to take a closer look. By February 1962, Ralph received a call that would change his future—the opportunity to purchase Roundhurst Construction. With the support of his wife, Marlys, they took a leap of faith and founded Dawson Construction.
Starting small, Ralph and Marlys built their business with just two additional workers inherited from the previous company. They acquired four vehicles—two motor graders and two snow plows—and secured contracts for road maintenance and snow removal across 16 townships in Miner County.
The company continued to grow, expanding its services to include gravel hauling and garbage collection for the City of Howard. As the workload increased, their son's Dan and Randy joined the family business. With a growing team and strong community support, Dawson Construction reached a significant milestone, becoming incorporated in 1993.
Today, more than 60 years later, Dawson Construction remains a proud family-owned and operated business. Under the ownership of Dan's wife Dianne, their son Nathan and his wife Jessica, the company continues to build on its strong foundation of hard work and dedication. Dawson Construction now serves 15 towns, 8 counties, and maintains approximately 600 miles of roads.
With six decades of experience, we remain committed to delivering quality service to our community and the surrounding areas for many years to come.
